Assisting individuals with disabilities in becoming as independent as possible.
Welcome to Directing My Life, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities ages 14 and up to achieve maximum independence and lead fulfilling lives. At Directing My Life, we believe in the potential of every individual and are committed to providing the support and resources necessary for them to thrive. Our comprehensive approach focuses on skill development and training, job placement and coaching, and active community involvement, ensuring that each person we serve has the opportunity to grow, succeed, and be an integral part of their community.
Through tailored skill development and training programs, we help individuals enhance their capabilities in various areas such as communication, social interaction, and daily living tasks. Our job placement and coaching services are designed to match individuals with meaningful employment opportunities and provide ongoing support to ensure their success in the workplace. Additionally, we encourage and facilitate participation in local community events, fostering social connections and a sense of belonging. At Directing My Life, we work closely with families and other support agencies to ensure that each individual's voice is heard and their unique needs are met, promoting a holistic approach to independence and inclusion.
Independent and Group Training
Training sessions focusing on social skills, independent living skills, and job readiness are conducted either individually or in small groups, typically consisting of two to six clients per instructor. These sessions are usually scheduled weekly and span a duration of four to eight weeks.
Similarly, training sessions tailored for public transportation skills are offered either individually or in small groups, typically accommodating two to three clients per instructor. The duration and frequency of these sessions are flexible, adapting to the specific needs of the participants.
Individual Consulting
To promote self-determination and self-advocacy, personalized consultations are available to delve into the unique needs and aspirations of every client. This is part of our individualized life and transitions planning services. Families and other circle of support persons are encouraged to attend as needed, as their insights are greatly valued. During these consultations, we collaboratively explore various avenues including skills enhancement, post-secondary pathways (such as college attendance or direct workforce integration), career aspirations, recreational pursuits, community engagement, interpersonal dynamics, and access to additional agency resources.
Community Engagement
At Directing My Life, we believe in the importance of leisure, recreational, and community involvement for overall well-being and social integration. We offer a variety of activities tailored to individuals with disabilities, ensuring they can participate fully and enjoyably. These events may include activities such as accessible sports programs, arts and crafts workshops, music and dance classes, and community outings such as visits to local parks, museums, and cultural festivals. Additionally, we organize social gatherings, volunteer opportunities, and special interest groups to foster connections and friendships. Our dedicated team provides the necessary support and accommodations, enabling individuals to engage in these activities confidently and meaningfully, enriching their lives and enhancing their sense of community.
Job Placement Services, Work Experiences, and Job Coaching
At Directing My Life, we are committed to helping individuals with disabilities find meaningful jobs and enriching work experiences that align with their skills and interests. Our dedicated team works closely with each individual to identify suitable employment opportunities, facilitating job placements or work experiences that offer both personal fulfillment and professional growth. To ensure success in the workplace, we provide comprehensive job coaching tailored to each person's needs, offering guidance and support to help them understand and perform their job tasks effectively. Our job coaches are on hand to address any challenges, provide ongoing feedback, and help individuals build confidence and independence in their roles, fostering long-term career success and satisfaction.
